Dehoney-Hinkle Approved as new IACS Director
Dehoney-Hinkle Approved as Indianapolis Animal Care Services Director

INDIANAPOLIS — The mayor’s new pick for director of Indianapolis Animal Care Services (IACS) has been approved.
“I’m excited to work alongside you and some of you again,” Dehoney-Hinkle said to committee members Wednesday.
For the past nine years, Dehoney-Hinkle served as superintendent for Greenfield-Hancock Animal Management. She has served in various animal control leadership roles during her career and actually started her career with IACS, eventually becoming deputy chief of kennel operations and interim director.
Dehoney-Hinkle’s appointment comes after the mayor’s original pick to lead the agency received weeks of pushback from the community. Hogsett at first chose Kelly Diamond but withdrew her nomination after some volunteers and advocates told council there were issues with volunteer hours being cut and the agency not being properly managed.
Volunteers seem to be ready to get to work with Dehoney-Hinkle. She’s had no issues to start and said it seems like everyone is getting along well so far.
“I don’t see any red flags as of now,” Dehoney-Hinkle said. “I think everyone is ready for change and I’m wanting to sit down with all the staff and volunteers.”
The next full meeting for the City-County Council is scheduled for Monday, August 11.
