INDIANAPOLIS — A family on the east side of Indianapolis has been without power for almost 24 hours after Wednesday’s storm. The Parksey family lives near 21st Street and Shadeland Avenue.

They say this is not the first time their power has gone out during bad weather.

Brittany Parksey told WISH-TV  that a transformer near their home that made a loud noise just before the outage started.

Since then, AES Indiana has changed their estimated restoration time several times. At one point they said 8:45 p.m., then 9:45 p.m., then 8 a.m. the next morning, and finally 8 p.m. Thursday.

As of 9:30 p.m. Thursday, AES reported that 14,211 customers were still without power. The company said crews from Michigan, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina are helping with repairs.

They expect restoration work to continue through the weekend. A heat wave with temperatures in the 90s is expected during that time.

The Parksey family said power outages like this have become more frequent. Earlier this year, they lost power for four days during severe weather. Brittany said their neighborhood used to rarely lose power, but now it happens every time there is a strong storm.
