Congress Works To Pass A Government Spending Bill

Why did Victoria Spartz vote “Yes” on the “Big Beautiful Bill”? Analysts say that the controversial bill will add trillions to our debt, but growing our GDP is more important claims Rep Spartz. Will congress be able to avoid a debt crisis before it’s too late?

Tony Katz:

So, it’s a vote of 215 to 214. And the one big, beautiful bill passes the House, which admittedly was not guaranteed. You had 32 members of the House who were questioning where the spending cuts were, yet the president come to the Hill. And if the president had to come to the Hill. That’s saying that the president understood that he needed to twist some arms or make some favors available to members of Congress, otherwise he’s not showing up because he wouldn’t show what could be seen as weakness but really is a recognition that not everybody is always on the same page. One of those people, who was often not on the same page when it comes to spending was Congresswoman Victoria Spartz of the Indiana 5th District. Full disclosure, my member of Congresswoman, but on this, even though she’s been opposed to other things, even though she has opposed people for speaker, she is a yay vote, she said on Twitter/X:

I voted yes to move this legislation forward, but this bill still needs some work. Congresswoman Victoria Spartz joins me right now. Yes, but it needs work. What is the work it needs and where is that work going to be done?

Victoria Spartz:

Well, it’s. Unfortunately, we’ll have to do some work in the Senate, which is a very heavy lifting, but hopefully the Senate will come through for us. But as you know, Tony very well, you know, we have a serious fiscal problem. We just got downgraded on Friday. Our bonds interest rates are going up. And our fiscal situation has started becoming a real serious issue. And Congress needs to start doing its job. It’s very difficult. The muscle memory is very strong here. But we need to really start making some changes, at least in fraud and abuse in the system and try to save some programs that were promised to the people. So, there are some things that needs to be worked on. There are some details that Freedom Caucus had discussion with the president. They still have to digest because unfortunately this place doesn’t under eleventh hour and not always have time to get it on the floor.

Tony Katz:

The downgrade that we’re talking about comes from Moodys and it’s an overall credit downgrade that took place on US credit base.

So basically, affecting as you’re discussing that bond market, we’ve seen the bond market move, but that doesn’t get better if we have as this bill allows for us an increase of the debt limit by $4 trillion, another $4 trillion in debt doesn’t make our credit rating go any better or get any better, does it?

Victoria Spartz:

Well, I guess it was a response. If you notice the timing, you know, there was the same week when we released the language, you know, so and it’s also, you know, our banks were downgraded.

And we also had interest going up on our treasury bills, which are huge problem because that’s your mortgage rates and car loan rates, and everything else can go up, and it will cost a lot for our economy. So, it’s a huge problem and we have to be dealing with that. I mean, there are some good things in this bill, we need to have the growth of the economy. It’s extremely important for that because we have to really start building better jobs and have better GDP back home.
