MARION, Ind. — A man was shot and killed by Marion police on Sunday.
Indiana State Police (ISP) said officers responded to a call about an armed person in the 3600 block of South Washington Street around 4:36 p.m. Upon arrival, they found 56-year-old Derick P. Morgan, armed with a knife and bleeding from a neck wound, possibly self-inflicted.
Despite police commands, Morgan charged at officers. In response, an officer shot Morgan at least once. ISP confirmed Morgan died at the scene.
The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave, and no officers were injured. ISP is leading the investigation, with support from the Grant County Prosecutor’s Office.
