Remote Work and Its Impact on Indiana
STATE WIDE–You may have heard or read recently that Indiana had a record year for population growth in 2024. At least part of that can be credited to the state offering incentives for people to come here and bring their remote job with them.
“So, the whole idea is to go after remote workers in let’s say Atlanta or Miami, wherever the case might be. And, they can work from anywhere in this remote environment. So, why not have them move to Indiana,” said Gary Dick, with Inside Indiana Business, talking to WIBC’s Tony Katz.
He was speaking about the “Make My Move” program, which started during the pandemic and has grown since.
Several counties or cities across the state are offering money, usually around $5,000, for people to move there. They get the money if they stay for a specified amount of time.
Some cities like Noblesville have upped the game, offering concert packages to Ruoff Music Center, a golf package, sports tickets, chamber membership and other incentives that total about $15,000.
A new partnership in central Indiana includes 11 counties.
“This new relationship, partnership here in central Indiana, I think it’s the 34th in Indiana. So, a lot of cities and towns are participating,” said Dick.
He said the competition between states is strong, but now the inner-state competition may be just as heavy.
