A Republican lawmaker has introduced a proposal to create a new $250 bill featuring President Donald Trump. If passed, this would be the first time a living former or current U.S. president appears on American currency.

The $250 Bill Proposal

South Carolina Congressman Joe Wilson is leading the effort, arguing that rising inflation has made carrying cash more burdensome. He claims the bill, which would direct the Bureau of Engraving and Printing to design a Trump $250 note, is necessary due to “Bidenflation.” Wilson announced the proposal on social media, calling Trump “the most valuable President” for “the most valuable bill.”

Public Reaction and Next Steps

The bill has yet to be introduced in Congress, and it remains uncertain whether it will gain traction. In the past, novelty Trump-themed banknotes have been sold online, but these were collectibles, not legal currency.

Wilson’s plan faces big obstacles. U.S. law bans living people from appearing on money. This rule has existed since 1866. Also, the U.S. no longer makes bills over $100. Larger bills, like $500 and $1,000, were discontinued in 1969 because people didn’t use them. To make the Trump $250 bill happen, Congress would need to change these rules. If approved, the Trump $250 bill would be the highest-value note in circulation, but for now, it remains just an idea.
