CENTRAL INDIANA–Cold and flu season is hitting central Indiana schools hard, with at least two schools closing temporarily due to a high number of sick students and staff.

The Marion County Health Department reported a 30% increase in emergency department visits for flu-like symptoms.

Schools are seeing an increase in absences due to illness, with some shifting to e-learning days for deep cleaning.

Doctors advise frequent handwashing, adequate sleep, a balanced diet, and avoiding touching the face to prevent the spread of illness.
