INDIANAPOLIS–The Circle of Lights is scheduled to take place this Friday night on Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis. Leaders in Indianapolis say you need to be ready for road closures, cold weather, and limited parking.
During the Christmas season the monument is decorated as an enormous Christmas tree. This annual city tradition began in 1962.
“What’s new this year is that the stage and all of its activities will be on the north side of the Monument instead of the south spoke where it’s been in previous years. The Monument will close at 7 am that day for setup,” said Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Commander Charles DeBlaso on Monument Circle Monday morning.
The pre-show starts at 5:15 pm. The live event runs from 6-7 pm with the tree lighting ceremony schedule to begin just before 7 pm. From 7-8 pm, DeBlaso says there will be music and a visit from Santa.
“Expect to see an increased presence of police officers, first responders, fire officials, and EMTs across Monument Circle and the downtown area. If you see something suspicious, please don’t hesitate to say something. Notify an officer,” said DeBlaso.
You can get public safety alerts that you can sign up for by texting COL2024 to 67283.
There’s also the High School Football State Championship games going on this Friday and Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium.
“We’ve really grown accustomed to all of this activity in downtown Indianapolis. It’s part of the ecosystem that makes our downtown great,” said Lucas Oil Stadium Director Eric Neuburger.
Neuburger says there are plenty of more exciting things at Lucas Oil Stadium planned for next month and beyond.
“Of course we are excited that people are coming to events at our venue throughout the month of December, but we don’t want it to stop there. We want residents and guests to get out, brave the cold, and appreciate what we all have here. It’s an amazing city,” said Neuburger.
