INDIANAPOLIS — A former corrections officer is facing his own time behind bars, after he was convicted of raping inmates – among other crimes – while employed at the Indiana Women’s Prison.

According to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, Gbenga Afolabi is guilty of rape, attempted rape, sexual misconduct, official misconduct, and intimidation.

Police first learned that Afolabi may have been having intimate relations with inmates in July of 2021. Eventually, four victims explained that he had threatened them into doing what he asked.

Prosecutor Ryan Mears says, “The defendant preyed on the vulnerable and took advantage of his position of power to abuse those who were there to rehabilitate themselves, not be victimized.”
