INDIANAPOLIS — Indy Metro Police recently released body-worn camera footage from a 2023 officer-involved shooting that left one person injured.
The shooting happened in the 3900 block of Caroline Avenue on November 10th, 2023. Officers had learned that a man was behaving strangely and firing shots.
At the scene, they say they saw Dontriell Hood with a gun. They apparently told him to drop it and lie on the ground, which he did. But, he then ran back toward his gun and grabbed it, which is when he was shot.
In the YouTube video posted by IMPD, you can see police caring for the man after the shooting. They apply a tourniquet to his arm before he is taken to the hospital in “serious but stable condition.”
IMPD says it had intended to release the footage sooner. But, Hood was charged for various crimes, so the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office requested that some evidence not be shared right away.
Hood pled guilty to resisting law enforcement, unlawful possession of a firearm, and criminal recklessness last month. A review board later determined that officers had been justified in this shooting.
