LAWRENCE, Ind. — An off-duty police officer shot a person while trying to break up a fight at a bar in Lawrence early this morning.
The call came in at around 2:00 a.m. Shots were fired at the Mar Y Sol Mexican Restaurant along Pendleton Pike in a fight that started inside the bar and spilled into the parking lot.
Two off-duty Lawrence officers were outside the bar and confronted the person who then fired shots. One of the officers returned fire injuring that person. The shooter was taken to the hospital where they are critical.
The officers are now on leave while the incident is investigated — which is standard protocol.
