FRANKLIN, Ind. — A suspect wanted for several felony charges, and who was a person of interest in a recent homicide, was shot and killed in an officer-involved shooting Tuesday afternoon in Franklin.
The incident happened just after 1:30 p.m. near the Mitsubishi plant by the I-65 and State Road 44 exit.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, Indianapolis SWAT team members were trying to serve a warrant for a man found inside a semi-truck in the Ryder warehouse parking lot.
State Police Sergeant John Perrine said the suspect refused all commands to step out of the truck and then the situation escalated when the SWAT team tried to take the man into custody.
“Shots were fired by officers who were involved and the suspect was hit by gunfire,” Sgt. Perrine said. “He was transported to a local hospital and pronounced deceased.”
The suspect was later identified as 37-year-old Robert Bido. He was wanted on multiple domestic-related charges including criminal confinement while armed, domestic battery in the presence of a child, intimidation with a deadly weapon, pointing a firearm and interference in reporting a crime.
Perrine said Bido was also a person of interest in a recent homicide that occurred in Indianapolis.
No officers were injured in the shooting. Those involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave while Indiana State Police investigates.
“I’m very grateful that our officers are going home to their families,” IMPD Chief Chris Bailey said. “This is yet another example of our officers putting themselves between us, bad things, and bad people in order to keep our community safe.”
A shotgun was also recovered by police near the suspect.
