Indiana Chamber’s annual legislative preview was held Monday in Indianapolis, where General Assembly leaders took part in a panel discussion looking ahead to priorities for the 2019 session.

Priorities include:

  • Raising the state’s smoking age to 21
  • Raising the cigarette tax by $2.00 a pack
  • Supporting the adoption of a hate crime law
  • And opposing any push to legalize medical marijuana

Chamber President Kevin Brinegar also said the organization supports a change to allow the governor to appoint the attorney general as opposed to being an elected position.

WIBC political correspondent Eric Berman joined the Hammer and Nigel show Monday to cover highlights from the session and provide perspective on the highly controversial hate crimes legislation that’s been proposed and is heavily strongly endoresed by Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb.
