INDIANAPOLIS — A woman was hit and killed by a car early Wednesday morning on the north side of Indianapolis.

The accident occurred around 5:30 a.m. near 38th Street and Boulevard Place. Police say the woman was walking in the northbound lanes when a driver tried to swerve but couldn’t avoid her. The car also hit a utility pole.

Officers found the woman in the road with serious injuries. She was taken to the hospital but didn’t survive.

The driver stayed at the scene, showed no signs of impairment, and went to the hospital for a blood draw—a standard step in serious crashes.

IMPD says the crash is still under investigation.
