Trump Approves $15.1M Federal Aid for Indiana Disasters

INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana will receive $15.1 million in federal funding to help communities recover from the severe flooding and tornadoes that impacted the state this spring. President Donald Trump announced the funding approval, stating his confidence in Indiana’s leadership for a rapid recovery.
Governor Mike Braun and several Indiana lawmakers expressed their gratitude. Governor Braun commented, “These funds will enable Hoosier communities to recover and rebuild stronger than ever.” The funding follows Braun’s declaration of a state of emergency for 35 counties affected by the April storms, which saw 57 tornadoes hit Indiana by mid-June, 20 of them in early April alone.
The aid comes just a week after Governor Braun launched an Emergency Alert Task Force. This task force, led by the Indiana Department of Homeland Security and the Integrated Public Safety Commission, aims to improve the state’s weather and emergency alert systems. Input will be gathered from local fire, law enforcement, and other key agencies, with a likely focus on addressing past issues with tornado siren effectiveness.
