Man Charged in Murder of Girlfriend Outside Indy Liquor Store

INDIANAPOLIS — A man is charged with murder in connection to the fatal shooting of a woman outside a liquor store in Indianapolis last week.
The shooting happened in the early morning hours of July 19 in the 5500 block of Georgetown Road near West 56th Street in the northwest side of Indianapolis.
Officers responded to the liquor store just after 3 a.m. There, they found 42-year-old Sabrina Harbert, unresponsive in a parking lot outside the store.
Police also saw a man kneeling with his hands up. He was identified as 25-year-old Maurice Howard. He claimed that Harbert, who IMPD said was his girlfriend, put her hands on him before shots were fired.
Witnesses at the scene told officers that they saw Howard and Harbert arguing before the shooting and also heard Howard threaten to kill Harbert. Investigators then reviewed surveillance video showing the two were arguing and pushing each other. Then, they said Howard shot Harbert in the back as she walked away from him.
Howard has been charged with murder and unlawful possession of a handgun.
