INDIANAPOLIS — Seven people, including four teenagers, are facing charges for crimes during the Fourth of July weekend, according to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.

A 14-year-old boy is accused of stealing a car, carrying a gun, and resisting arrest. Another 14-year-old is charged with escape and resisting arrest. A 16-year-old is accused of shooting fireworks at people. A 17-year-old faces misdemeanor charges for his behavior.

Prosecutors say Mikelle Martin, 18, of Indianapolis shot fireworks at people downtown and resisted arrest. Khalid-Ali Davis, 21, of Indianapolis fired a Roman candle at police officers. Drake Hughes, 18, of Greenfield set off mortar fireworks near crowds on Monument Circle.

Indiana law does not allow the names of minors charged in juvenile court to be released.

Prosecutor Ryan Mears said the behavior described in the charges, including a 14-year-old with a gun and fireworks aimed at police and residents, is unacceptable.

These charges are not connected to the shooting that happened around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 5 near South Illinois and West Washington streets. That shooting left two teenagers dead and five others injured.
