STATEWIDE–Tuesday July 15 is National Give Something Away Day. The organization “Two Men and a Junk Truck” in Indianapolis in Indianapolis says they are using their moving concept to fuel donations, reduce landfill waste, and support local educators.

“If people have anything around their homes, like a desk or a filing cabinet or really anything a teacher can use, then they will call us, we will pick it up and we will get in touch with Teachers’ Treasures and schedule a delivery to whatever school may use those items,” said Brittany Maggiore, Customer Experience Director with Two Men and a Junk Truck.

She says they most commonly get their hands on desks to donate. Teachers’ Treasures is a nonprofit that provides free resources to teachers and students across Marion County.

“We’ve had people get rid of couches or tables, whatever some apartments may need or families may need in support. We just try and donate whatever items we are able to,” said Maggiore.

Maggiore says as long as your items are sturdy and clean, they are good enough to donate.

“We also just want to make sure it’s something sustainable,” said Maggiore.

This year alone, she says they’ve already donated 2,000 items and want to keep growing their impact.
