19-Year-Old Arrested for Shooting Man on I-70 in East Indianapolis
INDIANAPOLIS — A 19-year-old from Indianapolis was arrested Tuesday for shooting a man driving on I-70 near Shadeland Avenue.
At 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Indiana State Police dispatchers received a 911 call about an interstate shooting on I-70. ISP troopers responded to the area and found a man inside a Toyota Camry on the right shoulder with a gunshot wound. Multiple bullet holes were also found in the side of the Toyota.
The injured man was treated at a local hospital and released.
ISP detectives responded to the scene to investigate. Detectives were able to generate multiple leads on a possible suspect vehicle that led them to the suspect. With the assistance of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department’s Violence Reduction Team Northwest District, Jonathan Avila-Molina, 19, of Indianapolis was taken into custody Tuesday. During the course of the investigation, multiple firearms were seized and a juvenile was also arrested for possession of a firearm.
Avila-Molina was incarcerated at the Marion County Jail, where he is facing preliminary charges of attempted murder and unlawful possession of a firearm.
