How an Evansville Police Officer Saved a Man’s Life
EVANSVILLE, Ind.–Sometimes it seems like errant police officers get more attention than ones who do a good job. But, an officer in Evansville is being recognized for his calm, clear and collected actions early Monday that may have helped save a man’s life.
The officer, identified as Officer Staats, in a news released, arrived at a home where someone had called 911 for a man not breathing.
As firefighters were pulling up, Staats entered the home and found a woman who was upset, over the man who was unconscious. Staats immediately began chest compressions.
It wasn’t long before the man was breathing.
“He’s breathing. They’re gonna come in and they’re gonna administer Narcan, okay?” he calmly reassured the woman.
“That’s a good sign,” he told the woman, as firefighters and rescue personnel came in to take over. The incident was recorded on bodycam video.
“Officer Staats showed great control in a chaotic situation. He was able to communicate clearly and effectively with the female inside the home. His calm focus allowed him to provide appropriate care to the male and comfort the female,” read the news release.
