Greenfield Man Sentenced to 14 Years for Sexual Misconduct with Minor

GREENFIELD, Ind. — A Greenfield man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison plus four years of house arrest for sexual misconduct with a 15-year-old girl.
William Rather, 43, was found guilty of two counts of soliciting and engaging in sexual acts with an underage child. He was sentenced on Monday.
Last December, the Greenfield Police Department began investigating Rather after receiving a tip about him soliciting and having sex with an underage child. A search warrant was executed at Rather’s home the night that police received the report.
Rather eventually admitted to officers that he knew the victim’s age and still engaged in sexual activity with her. He also confirmed “details about drug and alcohol use in his home” while other juveniles were present.
Rather was given 10 years of prison time, followed by four years of house arrest, even though prosecutors sought the full 15.
“It was disappointing to see the Court chose to go a different way in this case,” Hancock County Prosecutor Brent Eaton said. “We did not believe this defendant to be appropriate for anything other than a fully executed sentence in prison.”
