Woman Charged After Applying Makeup and Crashing into Car

SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. — An Indianapolis woman is facing charges for speeding, applying makeup, and crashing into a car.
The crash happened on November 9 last year near State Road 44 in Shelby County, when 43-year-old Khristal Grant crashed into the back of a black Ford. The crash caused the Ford to spin and then be hit by a minivan, and Grant’s vehicle was then hit by a red Jeep.
6-year-old James Donovan Hodges was a passenger in the Ford, and he died at the scene. The driver and the rest of the passengers were taken to hospital to be treated for their injuries.
Grant was given a blood test, which she failed because she had meth on her. She told authorities that she claimed to be paying attention to the road while driving to work in Connersville, but she did not stop in time.
Grant was charged on May 9 for driving while under the influence and causing death, but she was not taken into custody until May 28.
A trial is set for August 5 at 8:30 a.m., and Grant could face up to 12 years in prison if convicted.
