Pacers Gear Giveaway Starts Downtown Indy Traffic

INDIANAPOLIS — While excitement for the NBA Finals is high, people had to go through traffic.
That is exactly what happened at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in downtown Indianapolis Wednesday afternoon. Traffic was barely moving during rush hour because the Indiana Pacers were handing out gear.

Brian Swainky was one of those people in traffic. He says he did not regret coming to Gainbridge Fieldhouse for a swag bag.
“Looking at all of these cars around, they are lined up all the way down Pennsylvania Street for the swag bags,” Swainky says. “The city is buzzing, it’s exciting.”
Swainky says he is looking forward to watching the NBA Finals on Thursday.
“I can’t wait for the series. I’m so excited,” Swainky says. “Let’s go Pacers!”
Despite the rough, long wait in traffic, those who wanted a swag bag had no choice but to wait in the line.

Robert Sedum says he does not think it was a good idea to hold a giveaway in traffic.
“It’s the wrong time because people are getting off of work,” Sedum says.
People in Indiana, like Diana, say the giveaway did not work out well.
“Because they are not blocking the side streets, and that made street traffic even worse. They told you to line up on Pennsylvania Street. We have been in the same spot back at the Courthouse,” Diana says.
Officers were out there directing traffic. Some drivers stuck in traffic were not even there for the giveaway; they were just trying to get back home.
