Entitled to a Million-Dollar Defense
DELPHI, Ind. — The defense for Richard Allen, the convicted Delphi killer, cost the taxpayers of Carroll County just under $1 million, said documents that were previously sealed, which were made public Tuesday.
The amount of $986,000, was paid out for two years and two months worth of funding for lawyer reimbursements (attorneys Brad Rozzi and Andrew Baldwin), gas and mileage reimbursement, transcription services, payment for doctors, crime scene specialists, and more.
The documents that were released are for defense expenses from Jan. 2023 to March 2025, when Allen’s appeal was filed.
The court rejected around $51,000 that was requested because of lack of receipts and documentation or a lack of formal requests.
What has not yet been disclosed is how much it cost to prosecute the case.
