ASHLAND COUNTY, OH.–A man from West Lafayette, Indiana died when his single-engine plane crashed in Ashland County, Ohio on Monday.

Gary Wolfelt was the only person in the aircraft, identified as a kit model Express 2000 FT. The crash occurred near State Route 89 and Township Road 902 in Jackson Township around 7:42 p.m. Records show he is the owner of the plane.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the incident, with the National Transportation Safety Board also involved to try and determine the cause of the crash.

Family and friends of Wolfelt say he was a seasoned aviator.
