ACLU of Indiana’s Restraining Order Request Denied by Judge

INDIANAPOLIS — You may remember when the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was sued by the ACLU of Indiana after seven international students’ legal status was ended without clarity given. Also, the ACLU has asked for a temporary restraining order so that the students can be protected. Well, that restraining order was denied by a U.S. District Court judge.
The U.S. DHS violated their Fifth Amendment due process rights.
“We’re obviously disappointed in this decision,” said Ken Falk, legal director at the ACLU of Indiana. “These students have invested years of their lives and thousands of dollars in their education. For DHS to terminate their status with no warning or reason is deeply unfair, and we believe it is illegal.”
The ACLU is considering their legal options from this point.
