Perry Township Girl Uses Razor Blade on Another Student
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A student at a Perry Township school brought a razor blade to campus Thursday morning, resulting in another student being cut on the forearm, a spokeswoman for the district says.
A statement to parents and staff, shared with News 8 from Elizabeth Choi, the communications director for Perry Township Schools, said the injured student received immediate attention from school staff and was later released to his parents for further medical care.
No details were provided in the statement on where the incident happened, although a post on social media from a parent said it happened at the Southport 6th Grade Academy. The parent’s post included images of the boy’s scar on his right wrist with stitches. The parent also said the razor blade was brought to school by a 12-year-old girl.
The district said Perry Township Schools Police reported the incident to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.
The statement said that, while the intent of the student who brought the razor blade is unclear, the school emphasized that actions have consequences, especially when safety is compromised. No specific penalties for the student who brough the razor blade to school were included in the statement, but the district assured that any actions jeopardizing student and staff safety will be addressed seriously, in line with their Student Success Handbook.
