WARRICK COUNTY, Ind.–A late-night police chase ended with a crash and the arrest of a man from Evansville Wednesday.

State police say they received information that Levi Martin, 23, of Evansville could be trying to commit suicide somewhere in the Blue Grass area south of Elberfield.

A trooper says he stopped Martin on St. John Road, south of Baseline, but Martin drove off in his white Volkswagen Jetta. He went north on St. John Road and ended up going onto several different county roads until police deployed stop sticks on Old State Road at Volkman Road.

Officers say the stop sticks deflated both driver’s side tires, but Martin kept driving south on Old State Road until he eventually hit a utility pole at Inglefield Road.

Police say they told Martin to get out of the Volkswagen, but he refused, so they sent a K9 after him. They say Martin hit the K9 and they had to tase Martin before taking him into custody.

When they searched his Volkswagen, they say they found multiple cans of alcohol and an empty whiskey bottle.

First, Martin was taken to Deaconess Midtown to be treated for his injuries. Now, Martin is in the Warrick County Jail facing several charges.
