STATEWIDE–Indiana’s Community Crossings Matching Grant Program has awarded more than $200 million to nearly 250 communities across Indiana.

Money from this program goes to communities for road reconstruction, bridge preservation, intersection improvements, and other projects. In order to qualify, smaller municipalities have to provide a 25% match in local funds, while larger communities have to provide a 50% match.

“Whether rural or urban, road and bridge maintenance takes resources and funding that is not always easy for communities to come by. Community crossings grants help local governments move forward quicker on larger projects,” said State Representative Cindy Ledbetter of Newburgh.

State Representative Dave Heine of Fort Wayne says this support makes a big difference in rural areas.

“Rural communities, like mine, often have limited resources and can benefit from additional support to complete highway maintenance and other infrastructure improvements. It’s encouraging to me to know that there’s more upgrades in the works coming to my district, House District 85, and all of Allen County,” said Heine.

State Representative David Abbot of Rome City echoed a similar statement.

“Roadways are essential for daily life and maintaining them is critical for Hoosiers who want to travel regularly and also to support our local businesses. This funding enables local communities to act faster and make needed repairs and upgrades that may not have otherwise been possible,” said Abbot.

Since 2016, Community Crossings has awarded more than $2 billion to improve local roads and bridges.
