INDIANA- The American Lung Association is asking people around the nation to participate in National Take the Stairs Day. The goal is to raise awareness to help fight lung disease.

Around 1 million Hoosiers alone are battling with some type of lung disease.

Taking the stairs not only promotes a healthier lifestyle, but it’s accessible to anyone. Executive Director Tayna Husain told WISH, “Anyone can do it at their own pace and we promote that. It’s a different type of aerobic activity. It burns two to three times more calories than similar activities such as running.”

The Indiana chapter of the American Lung Association will hold a Fight for Air Climb for Hoosiers to get involved. March 7th, climbers can show their support by climbing the 47 floors of the Salesforce Tower downtown. That’s 1054 stairs!
