INDIANAPOLIS — Two rounds of snow are expected to hit the state before the week ends. Forecasters say the first will come Wednesday night in central Indiana, followed by a second round late Wednesday and into the night across the whole state.

“Trends with this system have been pushing the snow further south,” said Mike Ryan at the National Weather Service in Indianapolis. “Right now, expecting the heaviest of the snow will be across Missouri and then extending into Southern Illinois and near the Ohio River and points south.”

The second storm will arrive late Wednesday and continue into the night. It will bring snow showers similar to Sunday’s, with up to an inch expected in Indianapolis and several inches in the southern part of the state.

Frigid temperatures will stick around through Thursday. Ryan says we’re about 25 degrees colder than usual for this time of year. With these cold temps, any snow that falls on the roads will make driving a bit tricky.

“Even a thin amount of snow can create some slick spots,” he said. “So just give yourself a little bit of extra time.”

Looking ahead to the weekend, temperatures could climb into the 50s by Friday and Saturday.

“We will get to see a good amount of sunshine later into the weekend,” he added.
