STATEHOUSE — House Republicans have unveiled their nearly $47 billion budget, which comes in about $500-600 million above what Governor Mike Braun expected.
The budget is expected to include funding for K-12 education, school choice, public safety, and more, while eliminating some tax cuts. Lawmakers do still hope to cut your taxes, though there is ongoing debate on how this could be accomplished.
House Ways and Means Chairman Jeff Thompson believes “opportunity” is the “key word” for Hoosiers. He says the budget provides great opportunities to do great things.
According to Thompson, local leaders will work with Governor Braun to do what is best for Indiana residents. He notes that the drafted budget is “really close in alignment” to what Braun proposed.
