INDIANAPOLIS–The Indianapolis Fire Department rescued a kitten that was stuck in a storm drain cover on the east side of Indianapolis Tuesday night.
It happened in the 1500 block of Brookville Crossing Way, near Brookville and South Franklin roads.
The crew from IFD Ladder 43 used a saw to cut a piece of the cover and free the kitten’s head at around 7:15 pm.
“It had a bunch of squares at the top of the drain. The little guy had himself stuck in the drain and couldn’t get his head back out. Ladder 43 was able to use a saw to cut through the metal and release the kitten’s head out of the drain,” said Indianapolis Fire Department Battalion Chief Rita Reith.
The kitten was unharmed and was handed over to Indianapolis Animal Care Services for further care.
“It was a delicate operation, but they were able to get it done,” said Reith.
In a separate incident, a German Shepherd was rescued earlier this week by Indianapolis firefighters after it fell through ice in a pond. That dog has since been reunited with its owner.
