Hoosier Skating Coach Knew Some Plane Crash Victims

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — By now, you are probably aware of the fatal collision between an American Airlines flight and a military helicopter in Washington, D.C.

Fort Wayne-based coach Alena Lunin says she had been friends with former Russian world champion skaters Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov since they were 14 years old.

Her son had even competed with their son. The two were among the more than 60 people who were killed in the collision.

Everyone on board both aircraft is believed dead, but officials are still trying to locate the bodies.

One of the identified victims was Asra Hussain, from Carmel. Following her death, Indiana Senator Jim Banks Tweeted, “Both Asra and her husband…graduated from IU before moving to Washington. I’m praying for her family and everyone impacted by this horrible tragedy.”
