JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ind. — State Police say a Switzerland County man has been arrested for rape and other crimes following a 13-year-long investigation.
Officers believe Craig Long broke into a Jefferson County home, where he “battered and sexually assaulted” a woman in July 2011. But, DNA technology did not help identify him as a suspect until 2024.
The now-37-year-old man was taken to the Jefferson County Jail Wednesday. He is facing felony charges of rape, burglary, and aggravated battery, and is being held on a $500,000 bond.
State Police Sergeant Stephen Wheeles says officers have spoken to the victim and her family, and have let them know about this arrest.
Wheeles hopes that advances in technology and investigative techniques will allow the department’s cold case unit to solve all of the cases that it is currently investigating.
