INDIANAPOLIS –A winter weather advisory is in effect as snow hits just in time for your evening commute. The Indy Metro could see 2-4 inches, with up to 5 inches expected south and east of the city.
“Probably by mid-morning, we will start to see snow falling, and then we will get into a steadier, heavier snowfall for the afternoon,” said Mike Ryan, a forecaster at the National Weather Service in Indianapolis. “We will see the snow gradually diminish around midnight.”
The National Weather Service has issued winter storm warnings for far southern Indiana, where up to 5 inches of snow could fall south of Vincennes and Seymour. A warning means the snow will have a bigger impact than an advisory.
Ryan said today’s snow will stick to the already icy roads, adding to the nearly 8 inches Indy got between Sunday and Monday. Many neighborhoods around the Circle City still haven’t been plowed.
“We think the evening rush hour will be challenging,” he said. “Snow is going to accumulate fairly efficiently on the roadway as that continues some of the heavier rates of snow falling during the mid and late afternoon unfortunately that\’s going to coincide with the evening rush hour.”
Freezing rain and snow are coming Sunday afternoon. The rain can ice over roads, snap power lines, and make stepping outside risky.
