INDIANAPOLIS — Snow will stop later today, but cold temperatures and winds will keep it around for several days.

By midnight, about five inches of snow had fallen at the Indianapolis Airport, with a revised total of over six and a half inches by 7 a.m. Winds gusting up to 40 miles per hour will blow the snow around, making it difficult to clear from the roads.

“We are concerned about cold temperatures not only tonight and into tomorrow but really through the rest of the week,” said Greg Melo, a forecaster at the National Weather Service in Indianapolis. “Even though it’s going to be very cold, the good thing is that winds are going to be light, so our windchills won’t be severely dangerous.”

Forecasters say temperatures will dip into the single digits by Wednesday, with subzero temperatures possible overnight. The storm that started Sunday left most of the freezing rain in Southern Indiana.

“Down there, they were having a lot of issues,” Melo added. “We heard about power outages across Southern Indiana, especially toward the Ohio River.”

State Police and Indy Metro Police reported over 100 accidents and slide-offs across the city.

“Make sure you take it easy wherever you have to go,” Melo said.
