WASHINGTON — You may remember when a woman was attacked on a bus in Bloomington in January of 2023. Now, another woman has been sentenced for committing the federal hate crime.

Police say the victim – identified only as Z.F. – had been trying to reach I.U.’s campus when she was stabbed in the head multiple times by Billie Davis.

They believe Z.F.’s attack was connected to her Chinese heritage. Davis apparently later told officers that she had acted to ensure there was “one less enemy.”

U.S. Attorney Zachary Myers argues, “Violent hate should have no safe harbor in Indiana or anywhere in our great country… Together we can make our community safer for everyone.”

Davis pled guilty in September of this year. According to the Department of Justice, she will spend the next six years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.
