WABASH, IND — A house fire in Wabash killed a 2-year-old and injured a 6-month-old Saturday afternoon.

Firefighters found the children in the burning home on Columbus Street after a 911 call around 12:10 p.m. The 6-month-old wasn’t breathing when pulled from the house but was resuscitated with CPR. The child was later flown to Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis, where they remain in stable condition.

The 2-year-old, identified as Deliaha Goforth, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the fire’s cause, with a preliminary focus on a first-floor room where the fire started, according to a press release from Indiana State Police. Investigators say Deliaha Goforth and the 6-month-old were sleeping in that room when the fire broke out.

Indiana State Police and the Fire Marshal’s Office are looking into whether the fire involved any criminal activity
