GREENWOOD, Ind. – A man from Greenwood found hiding out in West Virginia was sentenced this week for sexually abusing a child.

David Bailey did not show up to his trial earlier this year, but the jury still found him guilty of sexual misconduct with a minor last August.

Bailey missed his trial because he ran off to West Virginia beforehand. US Marhsall’s eventually found him and brought him back to Indiana for his sentencing.

Johnson County prosecutor Lance Hamner sentenced him to 11 years with 9 years to be served at the Indiana Department of Correction. The other 2 years will be probation. Bailey will also have to register as a sex offender and participate in a sex offender evaluation and treatment as well as mental health and drug treatment.

Greenwood police started looking into Bailey in August of 2022 after getting reports that Bailey sexually abused a child from 2019 to 2021.
