We are about to saying something that is not surprising but is equally infuriating: the U.S government doesn’t care about the average American.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced Wednesday that the Federal Emergency Management Agency “does not have the funds” to help aid Americans through the rest of the hurricane season. The news comes after FEMA spent the last two years spending $1.4 billion on migrant aide.

Since the fall of 2022, FEMA has supported several programs that directly fund non-federal agencies that support humanitarian services for non-US citizens. The Shelter and Service Program for the 2024 fiscal year received $640 million. In addition, FEMA’s website confirmed that $363 million was allocated in 2023.

Meanwhile, three days prior, 2.4 billion U.S (taxpayers’) dollars was given to Ukraine for aide.

While The SSP and Ukraine’s aid are different grant programs, it wouldn’t take much for the Biden Administration to at least try and prioritize our country’s disaster-related streams. Hammer points out,

“All the president has to do is call a special session and say ‘we are going to allocate some of our military money and we are going to use it for humanitarian purposes here in the United States.’ Because the money that is going to Israel, going to Ukraine, comes out of the military budget.”

We don’t have all the answers, but we would like to see our leaders at least try to help the American people. Instead of throwing hands up in the air, maybe a presidential candidate that’s already in office could do something? Bueller? Bueller? Harris?

Oh, that’s right! Harris did offer up $750 for those “who really need it.”
