The destruction brought on by Hurricane Helene has been increasingly devastating. Farmers have lost livestock and land. Families are separated and unable to connect. Communities are isolated and the death count has raised to 128 people (as of Monday.)

Hoosiers are desperate to find a way to help our fellow Americans in North Carolina and E. Tennessee. It’s hard to know exactly what to do or how to help. Here at the Hammer and Nigel show we spoke with Salvation Army’s Major Mike Mckee about what we can do to right now to help those who need it the most.

Major Mike says the quickest and most beneficial way a person could help is by making a simple cash donation. He explains that direct donations to organizations like the Salvation Army will go much further than donating food and clothing, in cases like this. He gave an example that if someone donates a $1 can of peaches to a food pantry out-of-state, by the time it is shipped, sorted, and processed the organization often times loses money. Donating financially, in any capacity will allow teams to stretch that dollar amount as much as possible.
