INDIANAPOLIS — If you think some suspects have been let off the hook lately, you are not alone. Indy Fraternal Order of Police President Rick Snyder recently discussed his concerns with Hammer and Nigel.

One of the topics he covered with the show hosts involved a suspect who may have fired shots at two IMPD officers. That individual was given a $10,000 bail.

Snyder explained that he received a $100,000 surety bond, “which means that he can simply pay $10,000 and walk right back out onto the streets and be a danger to our community again.”

The FOP President went on to stress that anyone willing to fire at officers represents a great danger to society and should not be allowed back on the streets. He said the leniency in the Circle City’s legal system is part of why officers are “fleeing from this city in droves.”

He also advocated for more competitive pay for police, and for bond matrices to be standardized so that all judges can set “higher than normal bonds” if needed, especially against offenders who hurt officers.

Snyder stressed, “We’ve got to pull out the stops, keep our cops, and get serious about reforming the system of so-called ‘justice’ we’re supposed to have in our capital city.”
