Workers on I-465

INDIANAPOLIS — It seems like I-465 has constantly been under construction over the last few years.

INDOT says they will soon lay out the details of another major construction project along the busy interstate that loops Indianapolis. INDOT is expected to begin construction in the near future on an overhaul of the interchange between I-465 and U.S. 31 on the north side of Indy.

“This project is aiming at addressing capacity and also efficiency in this area, those are the two biggest ones,” said INDOT spokeswoman Kyleigh Cramer on WISH-TV. “We’re seeing a lot of traffic in this area, again Hamilton County is growing.”

The interchange sits right on the county line between Marion and Hamilton Counties. The project is expected to include a change in how you would merge onto I-465 from U.S. 31 and vice versa to eliminate dangerous weaving and merging. It will also add lanes to on and off-ramps to allow for more capacity.

“It’s almost 105,000 vehicles that travel U.S. 31 in both directions per day, estimated for 2025,” Cramer said.

INDOT will be holding a public meeting soon to lay out the details of the project, such as when it is slated to begin and how long it will take. The meeting is also for the public to weigh in and give feedback to make sure the project goes as smoothly as possible.

The public meeting will be held on Sept. 26 at the Drury Plaza Hotel, 9625 N. Meridian St. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. with a formal presentation beginning at 6 p.m.
