INDIANAPOLIS — Santino Ferrucci has been a journeyman driver within the NTT IndyCar Series and other national series over the last few years.
Not short on talent he has struggled to find a consistent place due to various circumstances, but it seems he has found that place in AJ Foyt Racing. On Thursday, it was announced that Ferrucci has signed a multi-year contract extension with Foyt, which will keep him in the iconic 14-car for the foreseeable future.
“I’m thrilled to continue with Santino in the number 14 car,” said Team President Larry Foyt. “We have really gelled over the last two seasons and he’s a big part of our recent success. This continuity is great for the team and I believe the pairing of Ferrucci and Malukas next season is a powerful combination for AJ Foyt Racing.”
David Malukas, let go by Arrow McLaren and currently in a temporary role with Meyer Shank, was signed by Foyt for 2025 earlier this year. Adding Ferrucci gives Foyt quite the arsenal of young talent to work with looking ahead.
“I think Larry’s done a great job building the team so they are now in a position to win an Indy 500 and compete for championships,” Ferrucci said. “Everybody that’s there is what made this team’s amazing turnaround.”
The deal with Foyt is Ferrucci’s first multi-year deal since his time with Dale Coyne in 2019. Since then Ferrucci has bounced around amongst a few teams, including Rahal-Letterman-Lanigan, Juncos-Hollinger, and a one-off drive with Dreyer and Reinbold at the Indianapolis 500 in 2022 when he finished 10th.
Just a few years ago Foyt was struggling to gain enough points to stay within the Leader’s Circle. That has improved anchored by the addition of Ferrucci in 2023. He turned heads that season by finishing third in the Indianapolis 500.
This season he has garnered ten Top Ten finishes and has quietly, but boldly, held solid in 10th in the overall season points standings, the highest any driver from Foyt has been in the points in quite some time.
