PLAINFIELD, IND — Two people were killed when their car collided with a police car that was chasing another vehicle involved in a different incident.
Plainfield Police were called to a Long John Silver’s restaurant on East Main Street around 6:00 p.m. after a report of a person down. When they arrived, an officer confronted some individuals, who then fled the scene in a white Kia.
The police turned on their lights and sirens and pursued the Kia.
The chase went through the intersection of U.S. Highway 40 and Smith Road. The Kia made it through, but the officer’s car collided with a gray Ford that entered the intersection. The people in the Ford died, and the officer was taken to the hospital.
Police later found the Kia, but no one was inside, and they are still searching for those involved.
The officer in the crash, a five-year veteran, is on administrative leave. Avon Police are investigating the crash.
