WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — A planned microchip factory near Purdue receives a federal investment of up to $450 million for construction.
SK Hynix’s semiconductor packaging and research facility in West Lafayette will contribute to commitments from all five leading semiconductor manufacturers: Intel, PSMC, Samsung, Micron, and SK Hynix.
The facility plans to create hundreds of jobs in engineering, technical support, administration, and maintenance by the end of 2030. It will cover 430,000 square feet on 90 acres and aims to reach full capacity by the second half of 2028.
The CHIPS Act, coauthored by Sen. Todd Young, aims to invest over $300 billion in semiconductor research and production.
Indiana has benefited from two federal tech hubs: the Silicon Crossroads Microelectronics Commons Hub and the Heartland BioWorks Hub.
