FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Fort Wayne Police are investigating after a man was seriously injured in an officer-involved shooting Wednesday afternoon.

Officers say they went near Autumn Woods Apartments after learning of a disabled car. But, while there, a man – who has not been publicly identified – apparently began to fire a gun “rapidly.”

It is not clear why he might have done this, or toward whom he was shooting. Police do not believe he had any connection to the disabled car.

He was soon shot by an officer and taken to the hospital, where he was last known to be in life-threatening condition.

No one else was hurt, and the officer who shot the man has been placed on a standard administrative leave. At this time, police are not sure if anyone else was involved.
