President Joe Biden made a big announcement over the weekend. On Sunday he announced on X that he is dropping out of the 2024 presidential race.
Biden also formally endorsed Kamala Harris, who declared her candidacy for President Sunday.
“Today, I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this,” said Biden in a statement on X that he posted shortly after his announcement about dropping out.
My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best… pic.twitter.com/x8DnvuImJV

In a statement issued through the Biden-Harris campaign, Harris expressed her gratitude to Biden for endorsing her, emphasizing her commitment to earning the nomination.
“I am honored to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination,” she declared. “We have 107 days until Election Day. Together, we will fight. And together, we will win.”
More than 35 congressional Democrats called on Biden to drop out after his disastrous performance against Trump in the debate.
Biden said in his letter endorsing Harris that he would fulfill his remaining duties as president, showing no signs to resign.
