Listen Live

Saturday Night Live hasn’t been relevant for well over a decade, but the classic skits made famous by the original cast still get referenced from time to time – like when a sitting U.S. senator makes a point of noting that he did not call his colleague “an ignorant slut.”

Here’s the background on the clip you’re about to enjoy:

Neera Tanden, president of the Center for American Progress and now President Biden’s nominee for Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) apologized at her Senator confirmation hearing for some old, now-deleted tweets that took some fairly brutal shots at Republican and Democrat politicians.

The hearings continued into Wednesday where Tanden’s tweets remained a topic of discussion. At one point, Senator John Neely Kennedy remarked that Tanden’s tweets “disturbed,” adding: “You called Senator Sanders everything but an ignorant slut.”

Kennedy later asked that the “record” reflect that he, himself, did not call Bernie Sanders an ignorant slut.

For you youngins out there, here’s the significance of Kennedy’s remark. And sorry, liberals. It’s too late to cancel Dan Aykroyd.
